Charis J. Carmichael Braun grew up in New Ulm, MN. After a year as an exchange student in Switzerland, she earned her BA from Bethany Lutheran College and her MFA from the New York Academy of Art. She is a working artist in painting and graphic design, and arts administrator who has served many not for profits and other churches.
